Just three months to go and the 2008-2009 school
year will be over. What a year, but it has been good in spite of
our economy and loss of jobs. When times get hard, we put our
priorities in order, and if we don't provide the best for our children,
our world cannot improve.
So many good things have happened this year. The heroic move of
our teachers taking a 10% cut in pay for 5 months, a $2,500 check from
Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation, and the $5,000 challenge to our
parents which has produced $17,650 to date, have all brought about a
great sense of family here at Cobb Street. With our enrollment in
the child care down by 20 and the school down by 11, we've had a loss in
our annual budget for the 2008-09 fiscal year. The Ford Family
Foundation has invited us to apply for a grant and we have also
submitted one to the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation to assist us
with this deficit.
This all said and done, Cobb Street is doing what it was intended to do
with a good Corporate Board, Staff, parents and supporters.
Thank you for helping to make us a safe learning place for children,
yours whom you entrust to our care.
